Understanding the comfort problem
The conversation begins with the rooms that become uncomfortable, when the problem occurs and who uses them. A bedroom, glass extension and equipment-heavy office can have very different loads even when their floor areas look similar.
Room dimensions, glazing, insulation, orientation, occupancy and heat-producing equipment help inform the capacity assessment. The surveyor should also ask whether heating is required and whether more rooms may be added later.
Planning equipment and routes
Potential indoor and outdoor positions are assessed together. The aim is useful air distribution, service access and a sensible visible finish. Pipework, cabling and condensate drainage need a continuous practical route rather than being treated as an afterthought.
Access, wall construction, electrical supply, neighbour considerations and permission issues may affect the design. Flats, listed properties and leasehold homes can require additional checks before work is confirmed.
Turning the survey into a quotation
The written proposal should identify the equipment, positions or design assumptions, installation scope, electrical work, controls and price. Applicable warranties and exclusions should be clear enough for a meaningful comparison.
A survey is also the time to ask how disruption will be managed, what protection is used in the working area and how the system will be demonstrated after commissioning.
