Air conditioning advice and planning guides
What a ducted system changes
A ducted system uses a concealed indoor unit and a network of ducts to distribute conditioned air to outlets. Return-air paths bring room air back to the equipment. The visible finish can be discreet, but the ceiling void, duct routes and access panels become part of the installation design.
Outlets alone do not establish independent room control. Zoning equipment, airflow balance, controls and the proposed indoor unit need coordinated design. Acoustic treatment and return-air placement can also affect sound and comfort.
Questions before choosing ducted installation
A specialist design should assess ceiling space, structural constraints, duct dimensions, insulation, drain routes, electrical supply, outdoor-unit positions and safe maintenance access. Work in a finished property may require ceiling openings and making good; the quotation should identify who completes each part.
Airflow needs an appropriate route back from occupied rooms, including when doors are closed. Filters, fans, drainage and controls must remain accessible after the ceiling is finished. Concealing equipment is not a reason to conceal future service requirements.
Compare practical split-system alternatives
Wall-mounted single splits can suit one bedroom, living room or office without adding distribution ducts. Compatible multi-splits can serve several rooms with separate indoor units and fewer outdoor units, where the approved combinations and routes allow.
Separate systems can also offer greater independence when rooms are used at different times. Compare airflow, indoor appearance, outdoor space, simultaneous use and the disruption of each complete installation before deciding.
Choose the right enquiry route
For a ducted quotation, use a contractor that currently provides ducted design and installation. Top Local’s online estimator is intended for its split-system installation options and should not be treated as a ducted-system quote.
If you would like to compare a single-room or multi-room split alternative in Kent or a covered South East London area, we can assess your rooms and routes. The final proposal will explain the equipment, work included, permissions and customer price.
Questions about Ducted Air Conditioning
Does Top Local install ducted air conditioning?
Not currently. This guide explains the option and its installation requirements. Top Local can discuss its single-split and multi-split alternatives.
Is ducted air conditioning suitable for every house?
No. Ceiling space, duct routes, return airflow, access and the extent of building work can make it impractical. A specialist survey is needed.
Does ducted equipment automatically provide fresh air?
Not necessarily. Comfort air conditioning and fresh-air ventilation are separate design requirements and should be checked explicitly.
Can the online estimator price a ducted installation?
No. Use it for Top Local’s supported split-system options; obtain a separate specialist assessment if you want ducted design and installation.
